Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security.
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will support the Functional Hybrid Nanomaterials group, Nanomaterials Synthesis Section, at the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences (CNMS), Physical Sciences Directorate (PSD), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
You will perform research exploring fundamental optical and electronic properties of electronically or optically excited nanomaterials, especially 2D materials and heterostructures for applications in quantum information science, sensors, or energy-related technologies.
You will work with a team of researchers to assemble and integrate novel 2D materials into device architectures and lead the combined measurement of their electrical and optical properties, such as single photon emission, bias-controlled interlayer excitons, electroluminescence, etc.
You will utilize existing characterization setups and work to develop and integrate new optical systems on current platforms, including novel cathodoluminescence SEM, photoluminescence/Raman/SHG/absorption microscopy, and ultrafast pump-probe microscopy.
You will also work across groups at the CNMS to integrate optical spectroscopy methods into existing scanning probe and electron microscopes to enable new capabilities.
Major Duties/
Responsibilities:
Enhance existing optical spectroscopy and electronics setups and expertise (e.
g.
, cathodoluminescence SEM, photoluminescence/Raman/SHG/absorption microscopy, and ultrafast pump-probe microscopy platforms) and integrate optical systems into new characterization platforms (e.
g.
, scanning tunneling microscopes, scanning probe microscopes, scanning transmission electron microscopes) Work on the assembly and integration of novel 2D materials into device architectures designed to allow combined measurement of their electrical and optical properties.
Report and publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals in a timely manner.
