$42,500 - $47,500/year US Citizenship is Required Position Summary This position will support the US Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) vision to ensure the long-term preservation of and access to DOE scientific and technical information through the conservation and digitization of DOE's legacy-based records collection dating from the 1940s forward.
This role will provide management related to digital and physical processing, collection digitization, and electronic records management; develop and implement workflows to efficiently and effectively preserve, describe, and provide access to digital and physical archival records according to professional best practices; and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to develop and ensure appropriate lifecycle management programs and workflows for the collection.
Position-Specific Duties Develop and implement best practices and procedures for a large collection of legacy records to include physical and electronic storage of documents, conversion from paper to digital, sensitivity reviews, and overall strategic planning.
Perform a range of core preservation, arrangement, descriptive, and metadata tasks to ensure the long-term viability of the collection and to make the materials discoverable to internal and external users.
Develop and oversee standards and guidance for metadata quality for digitization of physical media, including paper (documents, maps, photos, etc.
) microfiche, and other forms.
Collaborate with other IT and Information Science professionals to facilitate the upkeep of metadata and documents within OSTI's electronic collection.
Develop and oversee quality control procedures for digitized documents; collaborate with team for implementation of AI-based quality control to augment manual processes.
Develop and make recommendations for long-term storage of physical legacy media, including analysis and assessment of material conditions, and the application of best practices for archiving materials.
Work with customer stakeholders to understand legacy collection workflow needs and requirements.
Contribute to policies and procedures in the OSTI Records Management Plan.
Contribute to strategic choices for cloud and physical solutions for backup, retrieval, and disaster recovery for the entire electronic STI collection.
Create and oversee procedures for sensitivity reviews of digitized documents.
Make decisions independently related to technical and creative content and products that are critical to mission success.
Education, Training, Experience Master's Degree in library, archives, or museum studies.
Certification or emphasis in archival studies, digital repositories, or related areas of focus.
Experience with processing manuscript archival materials and digital collections.
Experience processing and cataloging digital assets and dissemination via web-based portals.
Experience with legacy collections, in digital or physical forms preferred (not required).
Experience with federal research repositories preferred (not required).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of strategies and technology developed or adopted by the archival community for managing and preserving paper and born-digital materials.
Familiarity with tools, trends, issues, standards, and best practices in the description and management of archival records.
Knowledge of or training in media digitization and electronic records management.
Familiarity with standard bibliographic metadata necessary for optimization of search and retrieval of electronic records.
Demonstrated excellent customer service.
Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in written format.
Good overall computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and other MS Office applications.
Strong planning and organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and a focus on delivery.
Self-directed, results-oriented, and flexible; works well under pressure and adheres to tight deadlines.
Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of an organization Ability to work as part of a diverse team.
Ability to translate technical information to an audience-appropriate level.
Thorough knowledge of English grammar, syntax and spelling.
Thorough knowledge of editorial and publication techniques, procedures and standards for print and web publishing operations.

Ability to provide proof of US Citizenship on your first day of employment to obtain a DOE HSPD-12 Badge in accordance with the terms of the contract.
