Major Duties/Responsibilities
Instrument technicians install, maintain, repair and calibrate a wide range of electronic, pneumatic, and microprocessor based equipment used to measure and control variables such as flow, level, pressure, temperature, motion, force, radiation and chemical composition in a variety of settings. Instrument Technicians perform NIST traceable high accuracy (metrology) calibrations and calibrations to ASTM standards. Instrument Technicians must have a working knowledge of various control loops (temperature, pressure, load, strain) and modes of control (PID, Gain, Phase, On\Off). They must possess a strong troubleshooting skill set to the component level as jobs and tasks vary greatly based on issues and need.
Instrument Technicians must possess the following essential skills:
o The ability to pay careful attention to detail
o Good communication and reading skills (including comprehension of technical documents)
o Manual dexterity and patience
o Good mathematical, scientific, mechanical, and logical reasoning abilities
o The ability to work with others
o Good computer skills
o The ability and desire to keep up-to-date with technological advancements in the field
o The ability to perform the assigned duties safely and without injury
Qualifications Required
The job requires a minimum two year degree in Electronics or related field or equivalent military or technical school training. This would consist of electronic theory in digital electronics, analog electronics, communications, industrial electronics, computer technology, math, and physics.
A minimum four years of relevant hands on maintenance experience in the repair of electronic systems and industrial instrumentation (or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required for the position.
Instrument Technicians may work regular week-day hours or work in shifts, and are sometimes "on-call" at night and on weekends. Working conditions can change dramatically from one job to another, instrument technicians may be exposed to confined spaces, high places, noisy, dusty, cold or unusually warm conditions. There may also be exposure to radiation devices, RF generating, and laser equipment.
The chosen candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy clearance.

This position is a Workplace Substance Abuse program (WSAP) testing designed position which requires passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in which employees are subject to being randomly selected for testing. The occupant of this position will also be subject to an ongoing requirement to report to ORNL any drug-related arrest or conviction or receipt of a positive drug test result.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
