The Department of Energy, Office of Science Pathways Internship is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work and explore Federal careers while still in school. The program is formally structured to give interns the opportunity to work in positions related to their academic/career goals.

One position may be filled in each location advertised as a Student Trainee (Physical Sciences) GS-1399-03/04/05. The full performance level of the position is GS-12. However, advancement is neither automatic nor guaranteed.
This is an excepted service appointment under the Pathways Internship Program. This internship program is for current students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with a paid opportunity to work at our agency and explore the National Park Service while still in school. The appointment may be non-competitively converted to a TERM (13 month appointment with extensions up to a four year appointment limit) or career-conditional (permanent) appointment after all program requirements have been met. However, it is important to remember that eligibility for conversion DOES NOT guarantee you will be offered a TERM or career-conditional appointment.
What are the eligibility requirements? You must be a student accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a degree or certificate program on a full- or half-time basis as defined by the institution (certificate program means post-secondary education, in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level technical, trade, vocational or business school curriculum); and Enrollment is with a qualifying educational institution such as high school or state-approved home school; or accredited technical or vocational school; a 2 or 4 year college or university; a graduate or professional school (i.e., law school, medical school); or a post-secondary home school curriculum; and You must be in good academic standing according to your institution, with a GPA of at least 2.5 and You must continue to meet these eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your Pathways Internship Program appointment.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
