As a Information Technology Specialist (INFOSEC), you will:
Serve as a subject matter expert in Linux, storage technologies, and security software operations supporting OSTI's programmatic research information products and related infrastructure. Utilize specialized technical expertise to ensure cyber security vulnerabilities and exploits are adequately mitigated for all systems and applications. Perform periodic assessment of adequacy of internal controls including review of procedures and system configurations to ensure that internal security controls are working as intended and that the data maintained on application support systems is secure. Establish and implement actions for meeting current and future needs in support of OSTI's programmatic requirements for maintaining a secure IT infrastructure. Represent the organization and convey findings and recommendations in meetings and dealings with supervisors, program officials, and other customers on issues that have an impact on the organization's objectives, work products and/or tasks. Your work experience must be IT related; your work experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification). You must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
Providing design, analysis, development, implementation, and maintenance of unclassified and classified systems and networks. Analyzing product metrics and customer feedback to assess the scientific and technical information management needs of the Department of Energy and its stakeholders and evaluating OSTI data systems to determine needed changes and enhancements. Applying systems engineering concepts and factors to ensure that applications are optimized for state-of-the-art technology and functionality Providing technical information, guidance and assessment to systems and network maintenance. Reviewing and analyzing IT systems and advising management of corrective actions needed to improve operations and to ensure compliance with DOE policies and regulations. Monitoring, tracking, developing and interpreting assignments governing the application of advanced IT principles, concepts, methods, standards and practices by managing system performance, and developing solutions to complex problems within the IT system architecture. Configuring OSTI's classified and unclassified content delivery network to be secure and compliant with federal directives and mandates. Performs technology and security activities and specialized functions relating to planning, project implementation, security controls, continuous monitoring, and evaluating operational performance metrics. Skill in applying advanced IT principles, concepts, methods, standards and practices to ensure the ability to develop and interpret regulations, policies, procedures and strategies governing the planning of service delivery for assigned functions in support of OSTI programs. Knowledge of governing IT and cyber security regulations, policies, process standards, special publications, directives and agency standards in order to regulate compliance and complete long-range planning and resolve critical problems related to application and web development. Knowledge of different types of mission support systems and related programs/systems to maintain an entire suite of web properties, to identify and suggest technological improvements to system capabilities, and to solve problems in overall program management and reporting requirements. Knowledge and skill to develop and monitor the OSTI internal control program to identify problem areas, determine the action required to improve operating program effectiveness, and maintain data integrity. Knowledge and skill to serve as a staff subject matter expert with a broad knowledge of IT, application and web development, concepts, and methods supporting business system interfaces to include application and data base security. Incumbent coordinates the resolution of system problems arising from factors such as changes in system processes, software, and integration. Incumbent develops policies with respect to technology and security program operations and determining systems compliance and residual risk. Incumbent develops guidelines for program users. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
