Supervisory Criminal Investigator

As a Supervisory Criminal Investigator (Assistant Special Agent-In-Charge) in the Office of Investigations you will be responsible for management of a team of criminal investigators engaged in conducting extremely sensitive and complex investigations designed to detect and prevent fraud, waste, and mismanagement. You will coordinate approved policies, procedures, and plans for all investigations within the office's jurisdiction. You will be responsible for the review of investigate reports. You will promote the efficiency and economy of Departmental operations and programs that may be the subject of congressional and media interest. To qualify for the GS-14 grade level you must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include experience independently planning and conducting criminal investigations of a sensitive and complex nature, coordinating initiatives, policies, rules and regulations with agency-wide impact. Knowledge of Federal criminal statues, rules and evidence, court procedures, investigative techniques and strategies, and DOE operations and facilities. Ability to prepare and review comprehensive investigative reports of highly complex and sensitive investigations for thoroughness, accuracy, completeness, and timeliness. Ability to effectively manage investigative teams in a proactive, supportive, and customer-focused manner, in compliance with prescribed policies and directives. Ability to plan, direct, coordinate, and conduct investigations of criminal, civil, and administrative wrongdoing which may involve examination of financial, contractual, and organizational records and transactions. Ability to effectively communicate complex and sensitive investigative matters to a variety of public, private organizations and/or program managers.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
